#1: Clive Hunt shot yesterday

Posted on 2004-11-04 11:32:45 by Sisirie

I heard this yesterday from someone who was talking to Joseph Hill. I didn't post it until I saw verification. It was in the Observer today.

From the Jamaican Observer:

Musician shot 8 times, friend killed

Observer Reporter
Thursday, November 04, 2004

ACE Jamaican music producer and musician Clive Hunt was shot eight times by gunmen who killed his travelling companion in Bog Walk, St Catherine, on Tuesday night.

The Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) reported yesterday that Hunt, 52, was shot and injured and a friend,
Gregory Edwards, also known as "Bobby Reds," 29, was shot and killed by gunmen outside a restaurant at Church Road in Bog Walk. He lived in Linstead where he owns a farm and a recording studio.

A close friend of Hunt told the Observer last night that the musician was called outside of the restaurant by someone when he was shot. Edwards, who went to his rescue, was killed. Hunt has been hospitalised.

Hunt has been mainly responsible for popularising reggae in France by producing a number of French-based reggae artistes, including Alpha Blondy, Klahed and Pierpoljak, all of whom have recorded with the PolyGram subsidiary Barclay in Paris.

And then there's this from the Gleaner today:

OCTOBER IS a month that many Jamaicans will want to forget in a hurry, as
police figures yesterday revealed that 155 persons were murdered last month,
making it the most violent four-week period in the country's history.

ah ehm ! maybe this is little too boastful a statement, not to say ridiculous
!
still, i wish him well, will this gun thing ever stop ?
on a lighter note, never cared much for the records mentioned above (which
aren't even that old, really)always loved his Ugly Man 7"s from the 90's,
especially the Leaving out of town riddim (with several Bonner brothers 'tunes
and a Yasus Afari 7") and his Cornel Campbell and Ken Boothe singles.tight
riddims which he sadly left aside when he started to produced artists like the
aforementioned ones.
