I have a GI-20, and it's OK (haven't tried the Axon, so this doesn't
really answer your question), but the unit worked 2000000 times better
when I got my Brian Moore with the RMC pickup. I had a Roland ready
Strat, which tracked terribly, but the iGuitar works great. I also use
it with a VG-88, which I love.

By the way, got your first book (sheets of sound) - wonderful stuff,
HIGHLY recommended. I've been playing and teaching a long time, and
it's one of the few new books that has entered my personal practice
world... Well done!

There was a long thread on this maybe 6 months ago? There was no clear
winner IIRC, but what was cool was the reference to some vids that
someone did with the Axon. I believe that they may have been bought
out a while ago, and some money put into marketing.

If you're looking for synth sounds, you have want to look for a used
GR-33. May cost you the same as a new GI-20, and you'll get outboard
synth as well. I have to believe that the MIDI through is the same as
the GI-20, but I don't know that.

I think the pickup makes the big difference. I hear that Ghost or RMC
is the way to go (I've got a Godin with an RMC, I think).

There are a lot more options for sound controlling via midi on the Axon than
the GR-20 (don't know about the GI-20 but suspect it's fairly limited). IIRC
Mark K was getting an Axon. I'm looking to audition one soon having sourced
one in a keyboard shop so I can try it with various keyboards/modules.

I don't know if I need all those performance oriented features. I'm planning
on using it primarily for writing and recording. Additionally, it seems like
a high price to pay for something that doesn't have a USB connection.
Apparently, the only difference between the original model and the MKII is
the firmware, including editing software and onboard synth. The pitch - to -
midi conversion is the same as the original. I'm going to give the GI-20 a
try. At least it's got a USB connection...
