| Hi folks, I know this has probably been discussed ad-nauseam, but what's
| the best current DJ software to be using? The guy I was talking to last
| Sat in the club showed me "Virtual DJ", but I've never used any DJing
| software before. I want to buy something, with a paper manual, so I can
| read it all, and really make the most of it, in the true sense of the
| word cracker...
|
| I've a lot of experience using a Pioneer DJM500, and a pair of Pioneer
| CDJ 500s (the little ones that replace the CDJ 500II's, and apparently
| Virtual DJ has Pioneer skins, but does it have the effects as well?
|
| What do you guys use? I have a demo version of Ableton live version 5,
| that is complete, and not time limited, but will not save... I've a
| feeling this may totally blow my mind though, and is like using a
| sledgehammer to crack open a peanut shell! What do you guys recommend?
|
| And what machine specs would I need? I have 512 Mb of RAM at the mo, and
| just the onboard sound and graphics. Would I need to buy a pair of sound
| cards? Apparently, if I ad another sound or graphics card, then it
| switches off the on board!
|
| Thanks, Alex.
| DJ 'Thatis' {pronounced "Tha teeeace"} pka DJ LX.

Just make sure you DON'T throw your money away on PCDJ Fx (or red VRM) It's
unreliable toilet.

No idea myself, but a friend of mine swears by Ableton.
I know Sasha uses it to great effect. There's a picture of the controller
hehad built for using with Ableton here:
<a href="http://musicthing.blogspot.com/2005/03/sashas-new-ableton-controller.html" target="_blank"> http://musicthing.blogspot.com/2005/03/sashas-new-ableton-co ntroller.html</a>
He has called it the "Maven".
Sasha now only uses Ableton, which he uses now in all his live sets if
you've noticed. There's a piece about him on Ableton's website, natch....
<a href="http://www.ableton.com/index?main=artists&sub=sasha" target="_blank">http://www.ableton.com/index?main=artists&sub=sasha</a>
I would have thought, if you can try and master Ableton, and try and find
out on some forum why it won't save, I would stick with that.

If money is not the issue, Ableton wins hands down.
