#1: Opinions on DeArmond Starfire Special Guitar

Posted on 2006-04-12 21:44:09 by hotchkisstrio

Found what looks to be a good deal on a DeArmond Starfire Special on
craigslits. tried it out and it is very nice, perfect condistion,
plays well etc. Has a graph-tec nut for the bigsby style trem and an
upgraded bridge.

Any thoughts on the quality of these guitars and how well it might hold
up? I'd probably sell off my Ibanez Arstar 80 if I got this, which
would be a painful breakup of a long relationship, but hey, you gotta
love a transparent red finish and a bigsby, right?

Any input/info is much appreciated.

Thanks,
Paul H.

These were dumped a few years ago at about $250 each. I got one to
convert to an alto guitar. I have not had any problems with it. It did
not have the special bridge or Bigsby set-up.

The build quality was pretty good for a cheap guitar: no sloppy joints
or anything like that. You could see that the wood is not the greatest
on the top, but in a cheap guitar, and a cherry red finish, that does
not matter.

the necks are pretty sweet on those - i had one for a while. they're a bit
heavey with the center block, and the pickups can be a bit noisy, and the
one you're looking at has upgraded the cheap parts, so if you like it, go
ahead.

I bought it. Couldn't resit the red finish and the bigsby. Plus the
American made 2K pickups are pretty cool and will provide more of a
change of pace from my Guild Savoy than my Ibanez 335 copy did.
