#1: Charlie Robinson Video "New Days"

Posted on 2005-06-30 17:59:16 by charles robinson

This is one that I was working on last night, one of my tunes called "New
Days". It is a Latin Jazz piece. I haven't settled on this as the final form
but I thought that I'd put it up anyway. It ends rather abruptly. Check it
out, all feedback is appreciated.

Charlie, that's very nice stuff. I most enjoyed your tone. The composition
was full of great harmonies, and the cadenza-like stuff up front was very
cool. What are you playing on/through? What are you recording with?

Hi Geordie,

I'm using the following: Ibanez GB-10 -- Boss RV3 Reverb Pedal--Steinberg
MI4 Interface-- into Cubase SL2 (No amp).

Since there is no amp the tone is mostly that of the guitar.
Thanks for listening,
Charlie

Nice man but you should not neglect the visual part! There should be more
visual content. Not much is going on and you are hardly recognizable. The
idea is cool but in the end not much is to be seen. I wanna see your fingers
on that fretboard and that distorted guitar face!

But do keep at it!

I like the various effects that Movie Maker provides but I get carried away
with them sometimes. The latest one is the "Old Movie"option. I'm stumped as
far as how to get the sound out of both channels. All of the sound for my
computer goes through the MI4.It normally comes out on both sides. When
recording I also get both channels. It is only when using Movie Maker that I
have problems.I'll keep messing around with it. I enjoyed your recent video
efforts (I can hardly comprehend that we are doing things like this).

Nice playing, Charlie. Parts of this performance reminded me a little
bit of Kenny Burrell's approach; thoughtful, open sounding, not too
busy but with a nice sense of time. Just wondering...what amp do you
use with the GB 10 on live gigs?

Great playing, but if you're going to have video let's see some of it.
It might as well be a still picture. I can't see your hands at all.

Use the "modern color movie" setting instead of the "can't tell what's
going on" setting. ;-)

Thanks a lot Mark, I'm still new to this video making so even when there are
no effects on there is a kind of blur around my fingers,
I'll keep trying to work it out.

I use an old Yorkville bass amp that I put a Weber California speaker into
along with the Boss RV-3 and get a sound that is close to the one that you
heard on the video.

Ok man, I'll do that in the future, I've been going crazy with all of the
neat effects found in Movie Maker. Some of you guys should try this, it is
very easy. I have a cheapo video camera ($30.) and the program (Movie Maker)
is already loaded in Windows 2000.
