#1: Joe Pass and Ella DVDs

Posted on 2005-11-18 21:26:46 by Ted Vieira

This week I picked up a couple of great DVDs....

The Genius of Joe Pass:

Very cool DVD. I'm sure a lot of you here have already seen this but it's
new for me! It's got footage and interviews that span from the '60s to the
'80s. The looks and the clothes change a bit, but the playing is always the
same... Consistently beautiful, amazing and timeless.

Ella Fitzgerald, Live at Montrex:
1969 performance. I've always thought Ella is one of the greatest jazz
musician's of all time. It's so nice to see her on this DVD. Tommy
Flanagan's trio is backing her.

These are both great DVDs. I've got a CD of Joe and Ella. Does anyone know
of any DVDs of the duo?

Thanks,

Ted Vieira

No DVD'S that I know of, but this site mentions a Laser Disc with Ella
so maybe there is hope. I was lucky enough to see them together at
radio city at least once as I remember.

I do remember seeing them play a duo together on tv one time, but I
have no remembrance of any more details. I don't think the two duo
albums they did together represent the best work of either artist. But
I would still love to see a video recording.
