Hi folks,
I had to write about the concert last night.
Have seen MB five times now since '87 when I was old enough to go. I
think I've missed only one or two of their tours that came here, and it
was always regrettable. They're among my very favorite groups, even
tho I'm not all that familiar with them, strangely enough.
I knew they were down a member and I was anxious to see how they dealt
with it; replace the member, or perhaps have the keyboards take up the
flute parts which I didn't see working well for certain songs. Enter
Norda, and she's a great replacement.
The "new" songs they performed were just great. I've been used to the
same set list for a while.
I was anxious to see if Norda could pull off NiWS, and
watching/listening to her up to that song left little doubt; she's a
very talented flutist and her vocal/guitar accompanyment worked out
extremely well. Turned out, she did NiWS perfectly executed all the
way to that last high note in the solo; it was great.
I'm suprised to say this, but it was the best MB concert I've been to.
I don't recall the one back in '87 that well, other than to say it was
a treat. But without that memory firmly in place, last night's
performance took the cake. Justin sounded even better vocally than he
does on the Red Rocks cd, and the whole band was overall very tight.
I miss the lighting effects they used to have, and the stage production
was toned down like so many other acts these days do. I'm assuming
it's simply an economic thing, which is a shame.
Full, packed crowd at my all-time favorite venue, which they're also
demolishing in the next year. So it was very bitter-sweet...last time
I'll ever see them there in that beautiful outdoor venue before they
likely ruin it in reconstruction.
Great show.

Great review. Thank you. So they're tearing down another sweet
amphitheater, are they? I love those and had my best times at them.
What a shame.

Depressing to hear "another," I didn't realize it was that rampant.
It is a total disgrace. Claims are that they can't compete with the
Six Flags venue about 70 or so miles from it, which, btw, is a horrible
venue; it's a large "tent" with squished in seating, none of the
beautiful scenery, yet capacity that is five times what our beautiful
amphitheatre is. The ambient surroundings are those of dirt roads and
screaming people on loud machines/rides, as compared to an incredible
tree-spattered green grounds with gently ascending hill leading to a
very small college in the background that in no way detracts from the
rest of it with all the woods and nature around it all.
One of the workers there gave me some moderate relief: apparently
they'll keep it as an outdoor venue, which wasn't the original plan,
and only expand upon it a bit including an upper level (which I've
never seen in an amphitheatre). If they do that, without messing with
the surrounding nature, they have a *chance* of not ruining it.
I'll still miss the wonderful coziness of the roughly only 2000 shell
capacity. But if they recognize what they have there, and how everyone
absolutely loves the place just as it is, perhaps we'll all get lucky
and expansion will be of minimal impact.
(BTW, I wish I could see another concert on this tour. Just loved it.)

Though it wasn't an outdoor venue, about two years ago we lost one of the
best venues in the area.
The Bronco Bowl was originally built to house a professional bowling tour
that never happened. But the slope of the amphitheatre was such that there
wasn't a bad seat in the house. The sound was also great. I only got to see
one show there, but it was really great.
They tore it down to build a Home Depot in its space.
