Hi all,
Just to let you know that in case you thought the classical piece "Adagio
For Strings'" association began with Ferry Corsten's remix for William
Orbit, I was listening to some early Faithless CD singles and discovered it
at the beginning of the Monster Mix of their "Reverence" track. 1997 was the
year.

Since then, parts of Leonard Bernstein's "Adagio for Strings" have also
been used in other popular trance songs such as Skip Raiders' "Another
Day" which Oakenfold used quite a bit in his Essential Mixes for Radio
1.

I think you'll find the piece was composed by Samuel Barber not Leonard
Bernstein.

My mistake. The version that I have was conducted by Berstein but you
are right that it was composed by Samuel Barber.

it's quite possible that Bernstein wrote one too. "Adagio" is a generic
term like "Fugue" or "Symphony". "for Strings" is obviously generic. it
was originally for a quartet, then redone for string orchestra (as i
recall).
but yes, the famous one is Samuel Barber's. it's most famous use is
probably in Platoon. i've heard one of the remixes used on G. Gordon Liddy
show (the Corsten one?).
there is also Albioni's Adagio, which has been remixed, but i don't know
much about it.

Check Out Rollerball's vers of albinoni's adagio - above and beyond in a
diff guise)
btw was'nt will orbit's adagio recorded way back in 95 ( i think The record
co held it up- his version is not trancey but his torch song and vine leaf
albums were def cutting edge electro at the
time.....

"Pieces in a Modern Style" (which contained "Adagio") was released in
2000. It was the Ferry Corsten remix that made the dance charts.
Tiësto does a version of Albioni's "Adagio"...look for a track called
"Athena".
