Hi,
Every now and then when I turn on some Moody Blues music, I kind of
reflect on how the Moodies' internet community has changed over the
years. Or at least since I've had an internet connection anyway.
I do think that, over the last few years, the Moody Blues message
boards have become increasingly strict and censor happy. It seems that
if you express an unpopular viewpoint you'll usually get banned from
these sites rather quickly. No differing viewpoints are usually
allowed, and spirited discussions and debates are pretty much outlawed.
I'm personally glad that there are newsgroups like these around where
one can express an opinion to his heart's content.
The reason why the chat sites have become more strict is due to the
overzealous and over bearing desire of many administrators and
moderators to ensure - to whatever ridiculous lengths it takes- that no
one is possibly offended by any jot or tittle of any post. They also
use the excuse that it's possible that children could be reading, and
that is why such a strict atmosphere should be kept. Well, to be
honest, how many little kids do you suppose are reading these boards
anyway? I think something that these site adminstrators need to keep
in mind is that these are Moody Blues chat sites and not ones for
Sesame Steet or Power Rangers.
The very first message board I posted to was called "The MBMB" which
was part of Judy Rucker's Moody Blues website, and this was around the
time Strange Times was released. The reason why I sought out a message
board was because I was curious if others thought that Strange Times
was as awful as I did. But it seemed that most were followers of the
herd mentality and they sang nothing but the praises of a CD where it
was obvious that the Moody Blues had lost the magic, and motivation,
that once had made them one of the greatest rock bands of all time.
I have noticed that Judy's beautifulceiling website had disappeared as
well as the MBMB. This is not anything new; it's been gone for quite a
while. Seems like Judy lost her motivation and interest in the
Moodies. But think about this. If Strange Times was as enjoyable as
Judy mentioned in her posts at the MBMB, then why did she lose
interest? You would think that, after hearing what is supposedly such
a good album, the fans who claim to love it would be very excited about
the band in question and would look forward to more material. They
would not be giving up on the Moody Blues.
Same is true for Donna M. Forosisky aka Frisk. I remember where she
posted at the MBMB about how she enjoyed Strange Times and how it was a
worthy effort and gave it a "7" rating out of 10. She even gently
criticized me at times at the message board for my cynicism about the
Moodies and their new album.
But it looks like she has lost her interest in the Moody Blues just as
Judy had. She has left the job of updating her "Index Of MB
Resources" to the ever anal retentive assclown Skyvoice. In some of
the last comments she made on other Moody chat sites, in particular her
final comments on "encampment of the blue gypsies", she commented about
how the Moody Blues were no longer exciting and how she was bored with
them. But again, if she sincerely believed that Strange Times was a
good album and liked the direction the band would ultimately take with
future projects like DECEMBER, then what is there to be bored about?
You would think that one would be excited and jazzed about the Moody
Blues if you really loved their Strange Times CD, and instead of being
bored, you'd think that Mrs. Forosisky, Mrs. Rucker, and those like
them would be in excited expectation of more and more and more Strange
Times-esque CD's.
The same is true not only of these individuals, but for so many others.
It does seem like a lot of good websites have gone down over the last
few years, and that there is a lot less activity on the Moody internet
chat sites as there was a few years ago. In fact, a lot of people have
abandoned this newsgroup and a lot of other chat sites have turned into
ghost towns.
It seems to me that a lot of those people who I recall saying they
loved Strange Times were just lying through their teeth. If they
really loved Strange Times and thought it was so awesome, they wouldn't
have lost interest like that. Obviously, they didn't like it so much
and only said they loved it in order to follow the herd mentality. I
think a lot of them tried very hard to like something that overall
wasn't a very good effort. Maybe some get carried away and act like
the Moodies are so holy that they can't speak ill of their latest
recording. You certainly don't see too many of them around anymore as
they have lost interest, closed up their websites, and packed up and
left. I'm sure that they are probably spending their time now hanging
out at the websites of artists that they are interested in.

Ty, I agree with you about the intolerant nature of a lot of the boards
out there. As to why Judy, Donna and Valerie (who had a great site and
mailing list with That-Sound) have lost interest in promoting fan sites
I can't say, except that perhaps they have more important things to do
with their lives (like family) than to deal with the needs of Moody
Blues fans. Valerie did tell me this was why she abandoned her
That-Sound list. I took it over and it flourished for awhile, but it
ultimately lost its verve as well. It's still open though, on a Yahoo
group. Donna has a young daughter. I don't think abandoning being
webmasters of fan sites means they've lost interest in the band at all.
And I bet they'll be at some of the upcoming concerts this summer.
I still miss the public board at jl.com, but we know that will never
return.

Almost no truer statement can be made. :-)

Ty, perhaps the boards got more strict in order to try and keep your
sorry ass off them. Interesting concept, mm? (Now let's see how long
it takes you to take my post and turn it into me WANTING you. LOL!!!)
