PBS is starting their Pledge Drive programming. There appears to be an
interesting music program featuring a couple Moody Blues offerings. It will
air in NW Ohio on March 6th at 8:00 on PBS Channel 27 &30. There have been
numerous postings on LC of airings in different places around the country
anywhere from March 4th - the 18th. Check your local listings! ( If you are
not a fan of PBS pledge breaks, Tivo is wonderful!!)

There is a huge discussion on H&H about this, but thank you for the
heads up here, Azure.
I remember I used to DREAD begger's week on PBS. It messed up Sesame

Thanks Azure! Just like with JH's new letter; not everyone checks out
every board in Moodydom. So we all get our news where we hang out.
I'm weird; even though I'm forbidden to post there or even look on some
boards because I'm evil incarnate, I still read not only there, but
what boards I can. Probably most people don't.
Kind of like watching a horrible accident, but not being able to look
away. I'm ashamed of myself, but I do it anyhow

Well, I posted about the show and still have not seen it! What is in my TV
Guide and what appears on my DirecTV are two different things! I have heard
that it is pretty good though...especially the last segment. PBS is running
some cool music programming during this pledge drive. I thought of Brice the
other day because there was a 1 1/2 hour special on Joni Mitchell.

There is a reason why so many of the musicians of that time period are
already gone. The rock and roll lifestyle is not an easy one. That being
said, it's rather amazing that the MBs still are doing remarkably well after
all they have experienced!

Seeing him live in that condition isn't very pretty, either.
This was in 1995, I believe the MB were doing the Gorge that year or
the one before. Of course I was there too.
The Ballard Firehouse(where I saw Eric) is a dive, they unloaded
their rental white econoline van. The MB's have many people working
for them using what? 2 or 3 moving van size vehicles? The Gorge had
20,000 in attendence. Well, I think there might have been 100 at the
Firehouse.

Eric gets in the HOF.

True but most of the rockers still alive from the 60s and even the
70s are at that age where once a death occurs, one can't necessarily
blame it on the rock and roll life style. One can live a hard life and
still live a very long time. How long we live has as much to do (if not
more) with our ancestry, our dna/genes as it does with the lives we
live or the things we do to our bodies (overeating, smoking, drinking,
drugs, etc.)
I'm grateful that the Moodies and many other artists and bands are
still around and here to entertain us. I've always been set against the
idea that just because any rocker is getting older, they should retire.
I think a lot of that has to do with the discomfort some of us may feel
at seeing a favorite performer growing older before our eyes and that
as much as it's a reminder of that person's mortality, it's a reminder
of our own as well -- we too are growing older.
..

Not knowing if it's the case, it may be that a rental van was all
Eric and company could afford. One might be very surprised at how much
wealth or how little wealth an entertainer may have in their bank
account. Not every once famous rock star did as well financially as
their peers -- think that's why we have so many of them doing the
oldies circuit. They have to keep working, otherwise they'd be broke.
Some are still quite capable of earning as much today on the oldies
circuit as what they earned in their 20s, which is remarkable.
What I think is truly a shame and a crime is there are artist
imitators out there making more money than what a true artist is
making. An imitator should be worth more than the original? Not in my
book and even if the original artist is deceased. Read one story a few
years back on an Elvis imitator making three million dollars per year
in Vegas, imitating Presley. That guy's success was spurring others to
try their hand at imitating other artists and hopefully making big
bucks in the process.

***Eric gets in the HOF.

Go figure.

I've said it before and will keep continuing to say it, a lot of the
artists who have gotten into the R&RHoF are there because of the
Rolling Stone mindset or because the artist are personal favorites of
the individuals on the nominating committee. There are those on the
committee who support inducting the Moody Blues into the HoF, as well
as other acts which aren't very well liked by many on the nominating
committee and voting members (the Rolling Stone mindset). One writer
once said that in order for some artists to ever be nominated and voted
in, the majority of the those on the nominating committee or the HoF
voters will have to die. The writer believed acts deserving of
inclusion might get a fairer deal from someone with no preconceived
prejudices against them. But, the writer also noted someone from
another generation might be more favorable to the acts they grew up
listening to and that many of the acts from the past that are eligible
would likely still not make it. The writer then suggested an alternate
scenario in which all other acts that had never been nominated and
inducted, would be inducted automatically after a certain length of
time -- in this case, the writer used 35 years as an example.
But, I'd consider such an act like that as more of an insult to any
act and to their fans, sort of like saying "we don't like you but we'll
let you in anyway because we want to make money off of you." I think
any act should be properly honored and not ushered in indiscriminately.
I do think the nominating process and voting procedures need to be
changed -- say, nominating fifty artists/bands with the requirement any
act receiving a vote of 51% or greater will be inducted into the HoF.
Not likely to happen.

Our PBS Station ran it on Wednesday night, and I have to agree, most
of these rockers have not aged well. Now to their defense, that was 40
years ago!

However, what disturbed me was the way they cut up songs in the show.
For example I love the Go Now video. Well they hacked the middle withe
the piano solo right out of the performance. I think they also
shortened Nights in White Satin.

I ordered the DVD, and I am hoping it has the full length videos, as
the video quality of the Moody's segments were quite good.

Oh, I remember Eric...and what a long time ago. It must have been in the
very early 70's that I saw him live...that'd be about 30 years ago. My very
first concert was Eric Burden and I think it was the Animals then...but
shucks could have been War. I don't know.... But it was Eric.... :) :)
:) LOL Only other musical memory of the evening was his keyboardist. He
was good. What a long time ago...and my what time has done to us!

Sometimes I even feel sad about the loss of my own youth. Only place I
find mine now is in the heart.

I saw him in Colorado Springs, a local pub...but a nice one at that. I had
no idea that he'd come from England to play there. What a long trip a long
time ago to play such a small venue.

and the go figure....

It's the sock, ....
If any of the guys had socks it must have been before they became the Moody
Blues.... :)

and now....if they had socks they probably wear them on their feet. LOL

I better get outta here.... Cheers to Eric where ever he may be !!! :)

Yes, I remember seeing that on either Hullabaloo or Shindig, another

Good memory! First of all, I don't remember anyone I ever saw on those
shows, and secondly, I would never have made the connection between the
Go Now Moodies and the DOFP Moodies. Such completely different bands,
and even if JH had been singing Go Now, I still think I wouldn't have

"American Dreams" comes on at 8:00 P.M. on NBC. Its a good show. Its
called a "coming of age drama", that is kind of like a soap opera, but
not a "Night Soap" like "Knots Landing" was (that show upset my dad).
The Pryor family - Jack, Helen, and their children JJ, Meg, Patty, and
Will live in the 60's (they are up to 1966 now). Meg dances on
"American Bandstand" with her friend Roxanne. The oldest, JJ, came back
from Vietnam and works for a company making space suits. Jack Pryor
owns an appliance and TV store, and they have a Maytag laundry pair.
They also have one at home in avocado, although I thought they didn't
have that till the 70s. BTW, I would not buy Hotpoint today, GE really
messed up their laundry equimpment around 1996.

Read next week's issue of TV Guide. They have a piece on "AD."
Actually, a snippet in regard to the way it ended. Leaving on the back

I would think a great deal of consideration is going at NBC for keeping
American Dreams alive. Moving it from Sunday night to Wednesday night was a
good strategic move.

As for The Moody Blues being represented on the show, it largely depends
whether The Moody Blues ever performed on American Bandstand (did they?) and
if they were well received on that show.

A very nostalgic series to be sure. Bittersweet.

Never mind. I was flipping through tonight's line up and saw AD on at 8:00.
If that was a move to improve viewership, 8:00 Wed. is NOT the day or time
to pick. They will be toast in the ratings tonight.

Hi all,
The moodies were not on "American Bandstand" but often there is 60's
music in the background that may or may not have been on AB. I just
thought something could be slipped into the background. AD is on at
8:00 tonite. We got to get NBC to keep it on at least another year.
