I was not able to view the clips. Do they require some special program?

Good post - and good vids too, but who are the blokes playing drums and
keyboards at the beginning of Gypsy?

I wish I knew Mick... I can identify Ray... but the other couple of people I
can't identify. Perhaps something in the video mix got cross wired.

it is certainly a strange bit with those other two characters - there is
also the titles stating something about the "mellotron breaking". Its good
vintage footage though and I suspect thats pretty much how they would have
looked around the time of "caught live". Certainly the arrangement of
"Gypsy" is similar. Can put a good face to the voices now - top marks
whoever puts these things out there!

Thanks for the link! I enjoyed the videos, but JL on "Gypsy" was a wee bit
scary!

The broken mellotron story goes something like... Mike having to use the
battery from the tour bus for the mellotron's power source for one of their
performances in Holland. The how and why remain unknown to me but the story
is out there somewhere. :-)

If you catch the right glimpse it almost looks like Justin on the drums...
take another look. Strange. Perhaps they caught some footage while they were
messing around before shooting... of course, pure speculation on my part.

Yvonne did a heck of a good job getting those to a web site.

In fact the recording of Gypsy really shows a band at its peak.
Just look at John's bass playing.
Its quite outstanding, and the togetherness of the band as a unit.
It sounds a lot bigger than just four or five instruments.

Those videos brought back a lot of great memories... one of which is "that

Wow...that's probably the best Moody video I've seen from the classic
era...it has very much the look and feel of the old "It's Lulu" show that I
think the Moodies appeared on (maybe this is even that appearance).

Interesting to me is the guitar Justin is playing...obviously that's not
"Big Red" (the famous Gibson 335). It's looks like a stock Stratocaster to
me...anyone got some opinion on this? Wonder if it's just a guitar laying
around that he decided to use just for this tv appearance? I thought he had
obtained Big Red by this time in his career.

Yeah, Lee, we also love them :-) We really enjoyed putting the videos of the
German and Dutch NIWS version on our site the same evening they were
broadcasted on TV. But also the black and white clips are very dear to my

You are right... Squires weren't around back then. He has mentioned having a
Squire and loving it but obviously not from this period.

I believe he plays his 12-string for "Question" at concerts, and every
concert I've seen since 2000, he played a Fender Strat for RMSS.

But I saw a video online recently where he played NIWS with a different
12-string acoustic, and it sounded fantastic.

Well, the film I was referring to was from 1968 version of RMSS and that
guitar looks very much like a Strat to me, so if he plays a Strat somewhat
currently for RMSS, my pretzel logic tells me that it is probably a strat in
1968.
